No electronic exhaust valve from the factory? An aftermarket exhaust system can still give you the fun of switching exhaust sound freely.
An electronic exhaust valve system needs more than the valve itself. It also needs a motor to drive it and a controller to command it. The control method decides how the valve opens and closes, and which functions are possible.
Shadow now offers a 2-pin direct-drive motor and a 4-pin electronic motor, paired with the X-FLAP TM and the Electronic Exhaust Valve Controller II-MODIFIED. That gives you two aftermarket setups, from simple switching to automatic switching based on driving conditions.
Electronic Exhaust Valve Controller II-MODIFIED: Automatic Switching with Driving Conditions via OBDII
Besides manual ON and OFF switching, the Shadow Electronic Exhaust Valve Controller II-MODIFIED reads vehicle information through OBDII. You can set when the valve opens and closes automatically based on engine speed, vehicle speed or turbo boost.
Use the mobile app to set the trigger conditions for AUTO mode, or switch the valve state by hand with the remote or the control box, depending on how you want to drive.
Paired with the Shadow 4-Pin Exhaust Valve Electronic Motor
The Shadow 4-pin electronic motor uses a connector and control signals compatible with OEM BMW, with a reinforced internal drive mechanism and better weather resistance for repeated valve operation.
Besides use on an aftermarket exhaust system, it can also replace OEM BMW electronic valve motors of matching specification.
X-FLAP TM: Simple Direct Drive for Easier Electronic Valve Modification
The Shadow X-FLAP TM is designed for direct-drive motors on aftermarket exhaust systems. It offers ON, OFF and AUTO modes, and the remote or the mobile app controls the valve fully open or fully closed.
AUTO mode accepts an external +12V trigger signal to switch the valve automatically. Paired with a Shadow R-Commander2 or EBC-Lite, it can trigger on engine speed or boost, giving a simple direct-drive system more control options.
Paired with the Shadow 2-Pin Direct-Drive Motor
The 2-pin motor needs no extra communication signal. The X-FLAP TM drives it directly, which keeps the control method simple.

Shadow also offers weld-on electronic valve housings in three sizes, Φ51, Φ63 and Φ76 mm, to match your exhaust pipe diameter and complete an electronic valve setup.

Reads engine speed, vehicle speed or boost through OBDII to open and close the exhaust valve automatically. Paired with the 4-pin electronic motor, it suits newer vehicles where you want the valve to switch automatically with driving conditions.
X-FLAP TM | For Modified Cars and Vehicles Where OBDII Control Is Not Available
Paired with the 2-pin direct-drive motor, it gives simple, direct valve control. For modified or older vehicles that cannot get the signals they need through OBDII, an external controller can also trigger AUTO mode by engine speed or boost, for automatic control.

Both motors use the same type of BMW mounting holes, but their drive methods differ, so appearance or mounting points alone cannot tell you whether they are compatible. Before buying, check the controller, motor connector, drive specification and valve housing together.
