X-FLAP TM｜Aftermarket Exhaust Valve Controller

Designed for aftermarket electronic exhaust valves, with direct-drive valve motors and three valve body sizes

X-FLAP TM is Shadow's aftermarket electronic valve controller, designed for direct-drive valve motors. Drivers switch between ON, OFF and AUTO from the remote or the smartphone app. In AUTO, the valve opens and closes on an external signal, and an R-Commander2 or EBC-Lite can trigger it by RPM or boost.

As noise regulations tighten, many factory cars now leave the plant with a valved exhaust: quiet most of the time, open when you want it. Even on cars without a factory valve, aftermarket exhaust builds often plan for one, balancing sound and appearance.

Electronic valves driven by a direct-drive motor are a common valve setup. They can be opened and closed manually or automatically, with a simple structure and a direct response.

Shadow X-FLAP TM is a controller designed for direct-drive valve motors. Pair it with a Shadow direct-drive valve motor and a 51, 63 or 76 mm electronic valve body for a complete setup. You can also buy the controller alone and use a motor and valve body you already own, as long as the drive method, connectors and electrical specifications are compatible. Please confirm this first.

The Shadow direct-drive valve motor uses the mounting pattern commonly found on BMW electronic valves. If the factory electronic valve system on your car has failed, and the valve body's mounting points match, you can replace it with the X-FLAP TM controller and a direct-drive valve motor.

X-FLAP TM drives a Shadow direct-drive valve motor directly, holding the valve fully open or fully closed according to the selected mode.

The direct-drive valve motor is powered independently by X-FLAP TM. The weld-in electronic valve body is designed for electronic valve motors and is welded into the muffler or side exhaust piping. Mounting screws and a drive spring are included.

Motor and valve body are sold separately.

For quiet driving. Use at low RPM and low load only.

AUTO｜Opens and closes on an external signal
The valve opens when a signal is present and closes when it is not.

The remote's three buttons correspond to ON, OFF and AUTO. The smartphone app switches modes as well and shows the current mode. Use either one, or both, whichever is easier at the moment.

Set the power-on default in the app: ON, OFF, AUTO or LST. The default, LST, remembers the valve state from before the last power-off and restores it at the next start. If you want to begin in the same mode every time, set it directly.

In AUTO, the valve follows a +12V signal on the yellow trigger wire: open with a signal, closed without one. Pair it with a Shadow R-Commander2 to trigger by RPM, or with an EBC-Lite to trigger by boost.

Trigger conditions are set on the external device. The device is sold separately, and X-FLAP TM itself does not sense RPM or boost.

The standard setup controls a single valve. If your exhaust has a valve on each side, add the 200 cm dual-valve extension harness to control both together. You can start with one valve and add the second later.

X-FLAP TM comes with its own power harness. Connect it to the ACC (+12V) in the fuse box and ground it securely. The harness includes a 5A fuse. Before installation, confirm the motor mounting points, the valve body weld position and the clearance for valve movement against your exhaust routing and underbody space. For connector and wiring steps, follow the product manual.

Mount the controller above the heat shield layer, inside the rear bumper, or inside the trunk if the chassis is not suitable for mounting. Do not install it behind the rear wheels, in the inner fender liner area, near the exhaust piping, low on the underbody, or within the suspension's range of movement: those areas are close to exhaust heat and move with the suspension.

Secure the controller in a dry place that is not prone to impact, and keep the harness away from the driveshaft, suspension links and exhaust heat zones.

X-FLAP TM suits two situations: a car with no factory electronic exhaust valve, where you add one to an aftermarket exhaust; or a car whose factory electronic valve system has failed, where the valve body's mounting points match and you replace it with the controller plus a direct-drive valve motor. If you already have a motor and valve body from another brand, check the drive method, connectors, electrical specifications and mechanical fit before deciding on a combination.

With the valve fully closed, drive at low RPM and low load only, and avoid heavy throttle to prevent excessive exhaust back pressure, which can trigger ECU fault detection or damage the vehicle. Actual exhaust sound depends on the exhaust design and valve installation.
