Electronic Exhaust Valve Controller for New-Generation Mercedes-Benz & Mercedes-AMG
Many vehicles equipped with multi-angle electronic exhaust valve motors rely on the ECU to dynamically adjust valve opening based on RPM, throttle position, drive mode, and vehicle state. As emission and noise regulations tighten, even with the factory sport exhaust engaged and the drive mode set to Sport or Sport+, the valves may not fully open — often staying at a partially open position.
The X-FLAP TL is Shadow's electronic exhaust valve control solution developed specifically for new-generation Mercedes-Benz. Beyond switching valve states directly via remote or smartphone app, it introduces a half-open correction feature in NOR (OEM Follow) mode: when the ECU has commanded the valve to open but still restricts the actual opening angle, X-FLAP automatically corrects it to fully open.
New-generation Mercedes-Benz electronic exhaust valves incorporate more comprehensive communication feedback, actuation monitoring, and diagnostic mechanisms. Using a controller that doesn't properly interface with the factory control logic — or disconnecting the factory valve motor entirely — can generate related fault codes, and may even trigger Limp Mode, restricting engine output or boost pressure.
The wiring harness uses OEM-spec connectors for true plug-and-play installation — no wire cutting required. It preserves the factory operating interface, removes the factory opening restrictions, lets the sport exhaust truly open all the way, and puts control back in the driver's hands.
Control Modes
X-FLAP TL offers three control modes, switchable in real time via remote or app. One unit controls both left and right valves simultaneously.
ON｜Force Open
Valve held at 100% open, overriding factory drive mode settings. For maximum exhaust note and minimum back pressure.
OFF｜Force Closed
Valve held at 100% closed. Recommended at low RPM and light load — for quiet driving.
NOR｜OEM Follow Mode
Follows the factory ECU control strategy, keeping the exhaust valves in sync with OEM logic.
Half-Open Correction｜Auto-Corrects Partial Opening to Full Open
On certain new-generation Mercedes-Benz models, even with the factory sport exhaust switch engaged or the drive mode set to Sport / Sport+, the valve only reaches a partially open or half-open position. In NOR mode, when X-FLAP TL detects that the ECU has commanded the valve to open but is only delivering approximately 20%–50% of the opening angle, the system automatically corrects it to 100% fully open. The factory sport exhaust button and drive modes continue to work as normal — but when the ECU decides to open, X-FLAP takes that restricted partial opening and releases it into a complete, full open.
*This feature applies only to select vehicles equipped with factory multi-stage (multi-angle) valve motors.
Startup Default Mode
The default mode on startup can be configured via app: either recall the state before the last power-off, or lock in ON, OFF, or NOR.
Design Features
1. Built-in Decode Module (Signal Loopback Mechanism)
The X-FLAP TL features a built-in signal processing mechanism for the control, feedback, and verification signals required by new-generation Mercedes-Benz electronic valves, maintaining the factory ECU's normal monitoring logic. No additional shielding device required — reducing the risk of DTC faults caused by abnormal valve control signals.
2. Fully Sealed Waterproof Design, Suitable for Underbody Installation
The controller housing is made from PBT GF30 engineering plastic, offering strong heat resistance and impact durability. Combined with a weather-resistant sealing compound, it can be mounted at a chassis high-point using existing bolt holes — no cabin wiring required. This reduces installation time and minimizes exposure to water accumulation and physical impact.
3. Plug-and-Play, Non-Destructive Installation
OEM-spec connectors and a modular design mean no wire cutting and no modification to the factory harness. The unit can be removed at any time, restoring the vehicle to its original condition — factory warranty remains unaffected.
4. Complete User Interface: Remote + Smartphone App
The package includes a high-penetration physical remote alongside full app support (iOS 17.0+ / Android 5.0+). The app displays real-time valve status and provides startup default mode configuration, remote pairing, and advanced settings.
5. Default Power-On Mode
The default mode after power-on can be configured via the App. You can choose to restore the status before power loss, or set a fixed default mode: ON, OFF, or NOR.

Specification
Mount the unit at a higher point under the chassis to avoid water pooling and road impact, keeping clear of suspension travel. If the controller does not operate correctly after installation, this may be related to the vehicle's signal configuration and is not a defect. Actual installation requirements should be confirmed based on the specific vehicle.

Current applications cover A-Class, CLA, C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, GLA, GLB, GLC, GLE, GLS, G-Class, CLE, SL, CLS, and AMG GT model ranges, including representative Mercedes-AMG models such as A45, CLA45, GLC43 AMG, GLC63 AMG, GLE63, GLS63, G63, C63, E63, S63, and SL63.*Models from model year 2019 onward are generally compatible. *For 2017–2018 models, please confirm whether the vehicle is a facelift version or is equipped with the newer integrated widescreen display.
